Football, Football, Football Part One with Charlie Mullan

from The Big D Podcast

In Part One of our, Football, Football, Football conversation, UK betting expert Charlie Mullan and I discuss the European Transfer Deadline, which took place yesterday. We discuss the major moves that took place leading until Deadline Day. We look at the winners and losers of this transfer window. Charlie really likes Everton getting Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek on loan deals. We are both happy in seeing Christian Eriksen return to the pitch. I also compliment Barcelona for making several big additions including former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. We then look at Newcastle spending large amounts of money in a push for Premier League survival. Before the transfer deadline, several USMNT players including Matt Turner, Ricardo Pepi, Auston Trusty, and George Bello move clubs in January. We both feel sorry that Man United midfielder Jesse Lingard did not leave the club. We both believe Lingard should get more playing time in Manchester. I believe Arsenal should have signed another striker in January with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving for Barca. Charlie responds with how Arsenal has gone with younger players. We then switch to discuss the USMNT, which sits in second place with four matches left in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying. After a frustrating 2-0 loss to Canada, the US goes into tomorrow's game against Honduras in second place with 18 points leveled with Mexico and only one point ahead of Panama. With only three guaranteed places from this region heading to Qatar, the US will need quality results in its final four WCQ matches. We discuss what's wrong with the USMNT. Charlie and I both believe USMNT and Chelsea star Christian Pulisic is not himself on the pitch. In fact, I would not be surprised if Pulisic is on the bench against Honduras tomorrow night. The conversation then switches to USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter. Despite a strong 2021 against rivals Mexico, Berhalter's team has frustrated fans early in games. Eleven of the 13 US WCQ goals have come after halftime.
