Deep Dive into A History of the Work of Redemption by Jonathan Edwards - From David to the Babylonish CaptivityThe fifth period of redemption history centers on the anointing of David, whom God selected from obscurity to be the ancestor and primary personal type of Jesus Christ. David’s elevation was a monumental step in the work of redemption, as God established a perpetual kingdom in his line, symbolizing the eternal reign of Christ over the spiritual Israel. Throughout David's life, God’s providence was remarkably visible in his miraculous preservation from various threats, including wild beasts, the giant Goliath, and the persistent pursuit of King Saul. This divine protection ensured that the lineage of the Redeemer remained unbroken.During this era, the canon of Scripture expanded significantly. Samuel, Nathan, and Gad recorded the history of God's dealings, while David, inspired as the "sweet psalmist," provided divine songs for public worship that remain foundational to the church. David also perfected Jewish worship by organizing the Levites and priests, and he fulfilled ancient promises by conquering the full extent of the promised land, from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates. He established Jerusalem as the holy city, a type of the future church and the site where the gospel would eventually be first proclaimed. The covenant of grace was renewed with David, reaching an external peak during Solomon’s reign. The construction of the Temple served as a glorious type of Christ’s body and the church in its glorified state. However, following Solomon, the Jewish state began to decline and wane, much like the moon. This decline was divinely intended to prepare the way for the Gospel; by diminishing earthly grandeur, God ensured the spiritual glory of Christ would be more apparent. Even as the kingdom faced division and captivity, God raised writing prophets like Isaiah to provide bold, clear revelations of the coming Savior’s sacrifice and kingdom.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730

I'm a teacher, author, nature lover and for ten years I owned a coffeehouse cafe where my faith in the goodness of humans was restored every day. This podcast highlights the awesomeness of humanity - er...outside the warmongers, globalists, tyrants and politicians in general. You know, the rest of us weird, quirky and sometimes hilarious humans. We'll talk woo, probe mysteries and leave you thinking about something more interesting or entertaining or uplifting than your grocery list, or boss or that oil change your car needs. I talk too much because I can't help my Gemini moon and Leo Rising nature. I do a podcast because it's cheaper, funnier and more productive than therapy.
