FS 34 – A Tale of Two Southpaws: Manny Pacquiao and Leon Edwards (or MMA as Post-Modern Martial Art)
from Southpaw · host Southpaw
This is fight study, where we use professional fights to study the science and art of fighting. We go layers deep, not just to go inside baseball for the superfans, but also to give rich insight for those who want to improve their own skills. On this episode, since there were two different combat sports events (boxing and MMA), Sam compares two different types of southpaws from two different sports: Manny Pacquiao from boxing, and Leon Edwards from MMA. Edwards being the taller longer fighter, and Pacquiao being the smaller fighter. And in doing so, we can better understand how size plays a major role in deciding your strategy. Then Sam uses some of the UFC undercard fights to analyze feinting and leading. And since combat sports, especially MMA can be so complex because it has so many elements involved, you can't really wrap your mind around it unless you apply some rigorous academic thinking: like critical theory, comparative literature, deconstruction, and post-modernism. And if you love the show, tell your friends. Spread the word. Tell them they're missing out. Also, rate and review us. Be detailed, and tell us about yourself and how you heard of us. This lets Apple and other podcasting apps know that they should be telling their other users about us.
