Third year student Maximilian Lechner-Scott is the host of the very first episode of Future Self!Max is studying a Bachelor of International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts at the Australian National University. Their major is Arabic and focus area is the Middle East.Max's ambitions lie in academia, specialising in urban planning in the Arab world. They interviewed Kristin V. Monroe, PhD., an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the Hajja Razia Sharif Sheikh Islamic Studies Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kentucky. On Associate Professor Monroe, Max quipped: “She wrote a recent book (The Insecure City: Space, Mobility, and Power) about the urban process of Beirut and I cited her heavily in my last essay. Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
