Genesis 6- Why did God send a great flood?

from The On Ramp: Daily Bible Reading

Why did God send a great flood? There are many varying perspectives on the precise meaning of Genesis 6:1-4, but one thing that we can’t escape is that there was a growing evil on the earth. The creation that He once said was “very good” (Genesis 1:31) had now broken His heart! The evil was so bad, and the darkness was so dark that He needed to intervene. God takes sin very seriously. He is just and must punish sin. God also takes righteousness very seriously. In fact, He is looking for people like Noah who live according to His Word. A right heart is a heart God can use. When I obey Jesus and leave my sin, I am free to be used by Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9a says “For the eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”Jesus, please search my heart and show me the things that don’t glorify you.
