Two resources to use with these teaching series: The Critical Journey 978-1879215498 John For Everyone, Part 1 978-0664227890 JFE is a great practical commentary with the scripture passages. I recommend using for devotional reading or even around the family table. Read the passage and the commentary aloud. Always full of practical application and learning from Tom Wright.
