Guest Pastor Jared Matthew: When Good Becomes Great: Learning to focus amidst spiritual distractions

from Faith Sermons and Studies · host Faith Baptist Church

My brothers and sisters and I grew up on cartoons on Saturday morning and I’ve enjoyed introducing these to my kids. They love the Road Runner, but one of my favorites is the never-ending saga between Bugs Bunny and hunter Elmer Fudd. Bugs Bunny is able to constantly escape due to distractions like the disguise of the Bugs or his over-zealousness. Satan is also a master of distractions or disguises. He can even use good things as a disguise in our lives. We can even be distracted into believing that we are doing the right things spiritually. These are good things, but can distract us from Jesus. How can we know when we are being distracted from Jesus and by how much? Today we are going to look at a story in the Bible that is going to illustrate how we can gauge if we are getting distracted from Jesus. Martha was so busy serving in her spiritual life that she didn’t make time for Jesus. Sometimes good things distract us from great things. We are going to find five unmistakable evidences of a heart that is distracted from Jesus in Luke Chapter 10.
