A lot of families have children and teens who are struggling with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Many people are looking for resources to navigate this very complicated process during a time when they are in a very stressed and in an emotional state with concerns for their child. We wanted to offer tips and resources for these families in an effort to help those who need it.Joining us today is Happy Madden, Licensed Professional Counselor with Nakao Counseling Center. Happy previously worked at Children’s Health as a mental health coordinator in the Emergency Department, where she helped children in crisis and their families navigate the mental health system. We dive deep into the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety in children and teens, effective treatment options, common triggers and underlying causes, and preventative measures that parents can take to promote good mental health and emotional wellbeing in their children. We also discuss how parents can best support their child throughout the treatment process and what steps to take if they suspect their child may be struggling with suicidal ideation.
