Honoring a Trailblazer: LA County Fire Station Named After First African-American Engineer, Hershel Clady

from Veteran's Affairs Plus W/ David L. Washington · host David L. Washington

In a groundbreaking move, the Los Angeles County Centurions, led by President Johnny Gray and retired Assistant Chief Dan Scott, have successfully spearheaded the naming of a fire station after the late Assistant Chief Hershel Clady. The first African-American to rise through the ranks to Engineer, Hershel Clady made history with his contributions to the LA County Fire Department. Despite facing challenges and the pause caused by COVID-19, the Centurions, with the support of Chief Daryl Osby and the unanimous backing of the County Supervisors, have triumphed in this historic endeavor. The dedication ceremony on February 17th during Black History Month will honor Hershel Clady's legacy and the impact he had on the entire fire service community. This podcast episode delves into the journey of making this significant tribute a reality.
