How to Prepare Yourself for a Divorce

from Create with Elyse · host Elyse-Anne

16: I've been toying with this idea for at least 10 years. And the reason why I didn't take action was because of FEAR.  Even up till 6 months ago, there was still fear.   I've 3 children and there's a lot of consider. However that being said, I did use my children as an excuse not to move forward.  Deciding that you want a divorce is just the beginning of the journey. If you've children, then there's so much more to consider.   That's why it had to take 10 years for me to grow up.  Going through a divorce will bring out the ugly side of you and your soon to be ex-husband and to be honest, I did become childish and egoist.  Understand that both parties are hurt and both want to be heard.   I've learned that when we quarrel, it's all about making our points across. We weren't ready to listen. We just want to vent.   As a result, a lot of hurtful words were exchanged and some words can't be taken back when said.  For me, I made a conscious decision to walk away and not run away from my marriage.   As a spiritual student, I recognise that there's an opportunity for me to grow and become a better woman.  A Course in Miracles said that all relationships are gifts.    The people who hurt you the most are your best SPIRITUAL teachers because they show you what you truly believe about yourself.  At the end of day, we're all children of God and this is something I had to get over.   No matter what I thought of him, he's also a Child of God.   Yes! He's the wrong person now but 15 years ago, he was the right person.   The last thing you really want to do is be angry with yourself and be guilty. You've already made the decision and you can't change the fact.  So don't make the same decision twice!   Like I said, there'll be a lot of ego play coming out and this is the best opportunity to heal your inner child and traumas so that you don't project it to the world and most of all your children.   They're watching and learning.   What kind of role model would you like to be for them?   I've 3 girls so what I do will impact and influence their love life in the future.   Children learn from watching not through our nagging (that would be so much easier though!).  Reach out to friends but be selective of who you speak to.   This is also a good time to shop around for lawyers. Talk to friends who've gone through this process and ask for recommendations.   It's going to be emotion journey but when you're done with the drama,  I promise you, you'll be at peace with yourself.  On top of that, you'll feel a sense of freedom that you've been longing for in a long time.  From this space, you'll find the clarity and strength to move on.   Yes this may be rock bottom for you and the only place to go is up!   Have faith that GOD is right there with you. Everything you need is already here. All you need to do is to take the next step.  I'm here with you.   With Gratitude,  Elyse-Anne.   🙋‍♀️P.S.
