In Hard Seasons, worship. “I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever.”   No one begins a prayer like this without knowing what the main request is going to be. Ethan knows that he is going to cry out to the LORD in desperation. His heart is beating to the rhythm of doubt and questions. His eyes are filled with tears. He says at the end of this song, “I bear in my heart the insults of all the nations!” He is in pain and distress. AND YET… He begins with worship. He chooses worship. He makes a conscious decision to let the words of confusion be wrapped in the atmosphere of praise. What a solid word for us today. We know that the life of the follower of Christ is not a life free from pain, from suffering, from events and circumstances that make no sense to us at the moment. If you only worship when the temperature of your life is just right, then sanctification never makes progress. If you only worship when it’s all going your way, then you will not have much worship going on. If God is only good when things line up according to your plan, then you will find that God is just not very good.
