Is Praying to the Saints Biblical? (The Faith Explained)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

If you've "scratched your head" and wondered why Catholics are allowed to pray to saints, Cale Clarke is here to give you some clarity and understanding. Biblical Support: Cale Clarke emphasizes that the Bible does not oppose seeking the intercession of saints. Praying to God remains paramount, but asking saints to pray on our behalf is also beneficial and biblically sound. Misunderstandings about Necromancy: Cale distinguishes between the condemned practice of necromancy and asking saints for their prayers. The former seeks to conjure the dead for forbidden knowledge, whereas the latter is a request for intercession, not at all related to necromancy. These two things are totally different.  Prayer vs. Worship: It's important to understand that praying to the saints means asking for their intercession, not worshiping them. The term "praying" in this context is like asking for help, and is not an act of worship, which is due to God alone. Community of Believers: Cale points out that the New Testament encourages Christians to pray for one another. Saints, being righteous and close to God, are seen as powerful intercessors both in life and after death. The Saints' Awareness: He also explains that saints are aware of our needs and can intercede for us. He references Scriptural passages that support the belief in the saints' ongoing involvement in the lives of the faithful. Efficiency of Saints' Intercession: Saints are no longer like us on earth! They "can handle the juggle" in responding to multiple prayers at once. Cale suggests that, in heaven, saints are not bound by earthly limitations and can intercede effectively for those who ask for their prayers. So don't be afraid to turn to your favorite saint for help! They care about you and want to be there for you, to lead you into the kingdom of heaven.
