Tarpon fishing has been fire lately after what some captains described as a tough April. They're showing up in the local channels and deep in the backcountry. One angler last week hooked into a monster 100-pounder that fought hard for an hour before wrapping around a bridge[2]. If you're targeting silver kings, get an early start and be ready for a bit of a run to find them, but the payoff has been worth it. The backcountry's producing a nice variety this past week. Anglers are landing sheepshead, snook, and speckled seatrout in good numbers[1]. Several reports mention successful yellowtail snapper catches, which is typical for this time of year[1][4]. Out on the reef and wrecks, mangrove and yellowtail snapper fishing continues to be very productive if you're looking to fill the cooler for dinner[4].
