Jesus & Peter's Denial Of The Lord (John 18:24-38) Speaker: Reverend Joseph Poon Website: http://www.bpcwa.org.au/ QUESTIONS Q1. Name the people the Lord Jesus was brought before and what He must gone through. How would you feel if you were in His shoes? How should Christians respond when falsely accused? Q2. Compare the Peter here (also Matt 26:69-75) and in John 13:36-38. What lesson do we learn to avoid falling? Did Peter learn and recover from this episode? What can we learn? Q3. Compare Matt 26;34, Luke 22:34, John 13:28 with Mark 14:68. How do you explain this popularly cited “contradiction” in the Bible? How should you think whenever you hear claims that the Bible has errors? Q4. Comment on the Jews’ and religious leaders’ refusal to enter into the judgment hall. What does this warn us about our hearts? Q5. The Lord Jesus has already eaten the Passover meal with His disciples, but the Jewish leaders speak of eating the Passover in John 18:28. Is this an error in the Bible? Explain. Q6. What is the significance of John 18:31-32 concerning how Jesus would die? Q7. What does vv36-37 teach us about the duty of the Christian in this world? Should we engage in social revolution and social programs to make this more a Christian world? Explain. Q8. What was Pilate’s response to Christ’s statement in v38? What should we be careful of? Why? Q9. What do you learn about God’s Sovereign decrees and providence in the progress of the trial? Q10. What obedience did Christ display in this chapter? How should we view our Saviour? ==== Bible Passage (KJV): John 18:24-38 24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. 25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. 26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew. 28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. 29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. 31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: 32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die. 33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? 36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. 38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. ==== YF Series on the Gospel of John Bible Presbyterian Church of WA Friday 10th November 2017 To watch this video on YouTube, use this link: https://youtu.be/7WbGfMzjrRk If you were helped by this recording, please share this with someone who would benefit from this.
