Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Hebrews 13:8) | Jonathan Edwards

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Deep Dive into Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Hebrews 13:8) by Jonathan EdwardsJonathan Edwards's sermon on Hebrews 13:8 explores the theological doctrine that Jesus Christ is entirely unchangeable in his nature and his role as the eternal Savior, remaining the same yesterday, today, and forever.Edwards explains that Christ is immutable in two main respects. First, his divine nature is completely unalterable, even though his human nature experienced temporary changes such as birth, suffering, and death. Second, Christ is unchangeable in his mediatorial office. Unlike earthly prophets, priests, or kings whose roles ended in death, Christ holds an everlasting priesthood and an eternal kingdom. He remains constantly sufficient in his power to save, retains the same merciful disposition toward sinners, and perpetually acts according to the eternal covenant of redemption and the covenant of grace without ever departing from his promises. This immutability serves as a profound warning to the wicked and the hypocritical. Because Christ does not change, he will surely execute the divine justice and dreadful threatenings he pronounced against unrepentant sinners during his earthly ministry. Edwards reproves those who have lost their spiritual concern, broken their covenant vows, or allowed their religious devotion to decline, reminding them that Christ's holy hatred of sin remains as fierce as it ever was.Conversely, Christ's unchangeable nature offers great encouragement and consolation to believers. Burdened sinners can trust that Christ still extends the exact same gracious invitations and will warmly welcome them just as he did while he walked on the earth. Furthermore, the godly are completely assured of their preservation in grace, knowing that Christ is an unfailing friend whose love, continual intercession, and promise of unalterable heavenly happiness will never cease.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@ReformedExplainerSpotify Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1t5dz4vEgvHqUknYQfwpRI?si=e-tDRFR2Qf6By1sAcMdkdwhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730
