Joanna (Marcus) Landau (1989-91)

from The Road from Carmel · host Jill Kenton and Doron Junger

Joining Jill and Doron on the tenth episode of the podcast (yes, we've reached the double digits, darlings!), to tell us her story, is our first guest from Israel, Joanna Landau, née Marcus (1989-91). Joanna is a Cambridge-educated lawyer and entrepreneur who is deeply dedicated to positively changing how the world feels about Israel. In 2011, she founded Vibe Israel, a Tel-Avivian NGO that generated over a billion positive mentions about Israel online. In 2017, Forbes named her one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Israel. Last year, Joanna co-authored the best-selling book "Ethical Tribing", which presents a strategy for reclaiming global appeal for Israel, especially among Millennials and Gen Z. Since October 7, Joanna has been consulting Israeli government offices and Jewish organizations abroad on how to effectively counter the anti-Israel narrative on social media and offline. Joanna lives in Tel Aviv with her husband, 3 children - one of whom is a combat soldier - and 2 dogs. Hear Joanna talk about what made her "too English for Israel", a memorable milk shower in Carmel's dining hall, her brush with faith, and her important work branding Israel. Thank you, Joanna, for turning us again to Carmel days! Dedication: at Joanna's request, this episode is dedicated to the memory of her beloved brother Daniel Marcus, who was a sixth-former at Carmel from 1988 to 1990, and sadly died in a private car accident in Israel at the age of 21.   Personal mentions in this episode: Philip Skelker (Headmaster) Miss Pennistone (Housemistress) Mary Evans (Mathematics) Rob Campbell (Art) Rony Greenberg (Jewish Studies) Daniel Marcus Shira Tilles-Marcus Lynda (Tahan) Henley Gabbie (Nussbaum) Greenberg Ali Refson-Fertleman Yaakov Leigh   Feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you liked about this episode, and rate us on your favorite podcast platform 🙏🏼 To tell us your story, email us at [email protected] / [email protected]
