Le 4 août 1944, après deux ans de réclusion totale, ils sont dénoncés, arrêtés et déportés à Auschwitz, où Anne et sa soeur sont séparées de leurs parents, puis transférées au camp de Bergen-Belsen, près de Hanovre. Anne Frank meurt du typhus à 15 ans, quelques semaines seulement avant la fin de la guerre. Après leur arrestation, Miep Gies, grande amie de la famille, retrouve le journal d'Anne Frank. Le père d'Anne, seul survivant des camps, met des mois avant de trouver le courage de lire les textes de sa fille, puis les fait publier. D'une maturité et d'une lucidité extraordinaires pour une si jeune fille, cette œuvre a ému le monde entier.
