Lessons from Leaders: Featured Guest Stephan Russo, formerly of the Goddard Riverside Community

from Lessons from Leaders · host Lynne Gilliland / Stephan Russo

I am thrilled to be joined by Stephan Russo who recently stepped down from a position with the Goddard Riverside Community after a history of leadership and social work. From youth prevention, street engagement, international support, to work in the center of New York City with homelessness, Stephan has had an incredible professional journey. Stephan's experience, and variety in experience, has led to his success in leading during the pandemic, crisis, and racial injustice. “The way we approach these crisis are with the idea of how do we bring people together? How can I facilitate community? Working as a collective is more powerful. The idea of distancing as we have to right now, is something we have to fight through and instead think together and think forward.”Episode Highlights 0:00 to 12:30 - Stephan's History 12:30 to 19:55 - Leading in the Crisis, Pandemic, Racial Injustice19:55 to 25:50 - What leaders need to do, who they need to be for success through crisis 25:50 to 30:00 - Limitations in Leadership30:00 - 34:50 - How your experience prepared you for where you are now34:50 to 37:30 - Closing thoughts

The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
