Looking Beyond LDL to Reduce Cardiovascular Events
from Lipid Luminations
Host: Larry Kaskel, MD Guest: Alan S. Brown, MD, FACC, FAHA, FNLA To effectively reduce one's cardiovascular risk, recent studies suggest it is necessary to treat multiple factors and not just the patient's LDL number. Dr. Brown discusses with host Dr. Larry Kaskel how studies that used a multi-factor approach, such as the Steno studies and the Champ study, dramatically reduced the incidents of cardiovascular events. Advance lipid testing according to Dr. Brown should only be used for borderline patients, and is not necessary for patients where the risk is apparent from the general blood/lipid panel numbers. Dr. Brown also highlights the need for a prospective clinical trial, which focuses on non-HDL numbers and particles. Brought to you by:
