The petals are the beautiful parts of the relationship, which both of you have worked hard to realize, your love, your children, your milestones etc.  The stems represent the timeline of your relationship: and stems have thorns.  They are inevitable.The thorns in your relationship could be:Loss of jobs or careerSickness Accidents or incapacitation Death There are infections and parasites that can infect the rose and may affect its growth. These are external influences that we invite by own will.
