Meenakshi Mukherjee // Organizing to empower community ecosystems

from Collected Knxwledge

January 2022! We’re kicking off the new year with such an inspiring conversation. We’re Collected Knxwledge and this week you’re in for an auditory treat!Luna and Drea spoke with Meenakshi Mukherjee who graces us with eloquence, humor, and optimism in education. We start with her transition from college to moving across the country to teach in Detroit. She reflects on her learnings from being a transplant to making this a home in almost 10 years. Meenakshi’s education journey is centered around seeing the need for a change in working conditions. From witnessing veteran teachers belittled because they were trapped by financial burdens in society, to contributing to creating multiple organizing campaigns at a school. There we learn about the structures of charter schools and the case for staying and changing a workplace rather than leaving it. In education, a savior complex can cloud judgement and hinder authenticity yet she reflects on shifting perspectives on her role as a teacher. We are profoundly moved by the idea that you don’t have to leave the classroom to make systemic change. Organizing collective power can make the systemic change we need. Fighting “compassionate” power and its constant concessions can be successful when the ecosystem works together. It matters to come together. When you’re ready to organize, check out Meenakshi’s recommended resource “Secrets of a Successful Organizer Handout” by Labor Notes https://labornotes.org/secrets/handouts to get started.Let us know you thoughts on what you hear on our Instagram @CollectedKnxwledgeUntil Next Time.Peace and Solidarity,Luna and Drea

Classic House and Dance tunes Podcast DJ Monty Hello you out there,DJ Monty here and welcome to my Soundcloud page. I hope that there is something to cater to your audio tastes.I've been djing for over 15 years. I started in the tech crew for a large student union based 'up north. With a capacity of 2,000 and working with the big names of the house music scene (Cream, Ministry, Gatecrasher, etc) and rubbing shoulders with A-list celeb DJ's in the DJ booth certainly taught me a thing or two about mixing, finding a good tune and reading the crowd (And other things, but I couldn't say!!)I have brought and collected records for years and so long as my golden rules of 'Is this a good tune?' is followed I have very open tastes spanning all genres. I have been a speed garage DJ, a Trance DJ, a US garage DJ... so long as the tunes are good and the audience is enjoying themselves, then that's fine by me.Recently dance music has evolved into forward looking and using live/ old school samples more and more for inspiration, so DJ's like Ki This Grandma's life Thecia Ellis I've had a full life and I'm full of stories. I also have a few opinions of what I have observed in my life. I'll share with you quotes that I have collected over the years and what I am reading, whether a favorite novel or any other varieties of books I like to read.I'll also tell you what is happening on my farm here in NE Oklahoma. 60 Songs That Explain the '90s The Ringer First came '60 Songs That Explain the '90s.'
