Michelle Duppong’s Quiet Path to Holiness (The Tim Glemkowski Show)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

Some saints seem larger than life. Others draw people to Christ through a quiet joy that speaks louder than words. For Sister Gianna of the Resurrection, Servant of God Michelle Duppong was that kind of witness. Sister Gianna joined The Tim Glemkowski Show to remember the life of her friend, a humble and pure young woman deeply devoted to prayer. As a college student, Sister Gianna was drawn into a life of daily prayer through Michelle’s steady encouragement. That friendship helped awaken her vocation and planted the seeds of a deeper love for Jesus. What stood out most was Michelle’s simplicity. Sister Gianna said Michelle would walk into a room and seek out the person with the hardest heart, loving them with a gentleness that never felt forced. “She had a way of disarming people through her great joy and her simplicity,” she said. That same grace shone even more brightly in suffering. After Michelle was diagnosed with cancer, Sister Gianna watched from the convent as her friend embraced the Cross with remarkable trust in God. Michelle did not leave behind volumes of writing or public acclaim. Instead, Sister Gianna said, “She preached with her life,” showing how an ordinary laywoman could live holiness in an extraordinary way. When Michelle died on Christmas Day in 2015, Sister Gianna immediately wrote down her memories, convinced her friend’s witness would not be forgotten. Years later, when Michelle’s cause was officially opened, that conviction only deepened. Michelle’s story is a reminder that sanctity does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like fidelity in prayer, love for the person in front of you, and courage in suffering. In a world hungry for authentic witnesses, Michelle Duppong’s life still speaks.
