Midnight Bombs Fall

from Global Horizons - The Australian International Education Podcast · host Global Society

As vocation education providers wrapped up their week last week, faceless folks hidden away in darkened corridors were putting other plans into action. Even as the dust had barely settled on the third day of Senate hearings into the current international education legislation, "send" was being pressed, dropping "international student cap letter bombs" on a wide range of providers. Those "bombs" continued to drop until after midnight. Happy weekend everyone. The resulting devastation is still unfolding, but the initial reports back from the field are bleak indeed. Skills gaps? Upskilling our workforce? The consequences of last Friday will be felt for years, if not decades to come. In this episode of Global Horizons, Rob Malicki (CEO, The Global Society) and Dirk Mulder (Editor, The Koala News) unpack the last news from the international education sector in Australia. Whilst there's a fair chunk of unhappiness to catch up on, there are also some good news stories going on out there... so let's try to make the end of this Friday just a little happier than the last one, eh? Global Horizons is a production of The Global Society, Australia's Learning Abroad Support Company.  We are incredibly proud to be the OFFICIAL podcast of the AIEC Australian International Education Conference... registrations are open now!
