Milrose Munce by D A Cooper

This novel excerpt introduces Milrose Munce, a teenager who can see and interact with ghosts inhabiting his school. Milrose prefers the company of these deceased individuals—particularly the humorous "science experiment gone wrong" victims on the third floor—to his living classmates. He and a fellow ghost-seeing student, Arabella, are sentenced to "Professional Help" by Massimo Natica, a seemingly incompetent counselor, for their unusual behavior of talking to invisible entities. Together with their ghostly allies, including Hurled Harry and Deeply Damaged Dave, Milrose and Arabella uncover that the "Help" program is a deceptive attempt to "cure" students who can perceive ghosts, and they ultimately foil the plan to rid the school of its spectral residents, leading to a more harmonious coexistence between the living and the dead.
