No aniversário de 20 anos de "Os Trapalhões", em 1994, Mussum, Renato Aragão e Dedé Santana foram chamados para apresentar o Criança Esperança, campanha beneficente da TV Globo, mas o que era para ser uma data festiva, acabou sendo triste. No dia anterior, o Brasil acordou com a notícia da morte de Mussum. Após sofrer complicações causadas por um transplante de coração, o humorista morreu, aos 53 anos, deixando uma legião de fãs e um legado para a TV, o cinema e a música do país. Desde então, Antônio Carlos é consagrado no imaginário popular como Mussum, o trapalhão, e se tornou um símbolo do reco-reco de metal, do banjo brasileiro e de bordões como "tranquilis", "cacildis" e "como de fatis". Mesmo quase 30 anos após sua morte, o artista continua a inspirar desde obras como a cinebiografia "Mussum, o Filmis" até lugares como o Bar do Mussum, na Barra da Tijuca, no Rio de Janeiro.

2014 was a year of commemoration for the wars and unrest of the twentieth century: the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War; the anniversaries of 1944, final year of the Second World War and the opening battles of the Vietnam War in 1954; the end of apartheid in South Africa in 1994. Claire O’Mahony, Course Director of the MSt in the History of Design, convened the 2014 annual Design History Society conference at Oxford's Department for Continuing Education reflecting upon the relationship of design and craft both to conflict and to hopes for peace and justice in our collective memory and our future. Between Thursday 4 and Saturday 6 September 2014, 120 scholars travelled from 19 countries around the globe to meet at Rewley House to share and to discuss their new research about Design for War and Peace.
