Welcome to the first episode of our next series on healing. Today, I’m diving deep into my healing journey, sharing the raw and real experiences I’ve faced along the way. I’ll share my experience with postpartum anxiety after my daughter was born, discuss the concept of healing, explore how I’ve healed on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level, and debunk misconceptions about healing to understand what true healing entails.

  • The Essence of Healing: Healing isn’t about being “fixed” or “cured.” It’s a continuous process, and everyone’s journey is unique to them and their experiences.
  • Physical Healing: The body repairing itself from injury, illness, and chronic conditions.
  • Emotional Healing: Addressing and processing feelings, unprocessed trauma, and mental health challenges. Feeling witnessed in our emotions can reduce their intensity and control over us.
  • Spiritual Healing: Finding peace, purpose, and connection with something greater than ourselves.

My Experience with Postpartum Anxiety: After giving birth to my daughter, I faced intense postpartum anxiety. Despite all the tools and practices at my disposal, it was incredibly tough. I realized it was time to approach issues I had previously avoided. Diving into somatics, I found breathwork to be a pivotal part of my healing process. It helped me find my way back to equilibrium.

Breathwork - The Missing Piece:

  • Breathwork has been transformative for me. It helps down-regulate and drop into the parasympathetic state, promoting relaxation and recovery.
  • Through breathwork, I’ve experienced revelations, feelings of wholeness, and moments of profound healing without needing to say or do anything.
  • Benefits include stress reduction, improved heart rate variability, and enhanced well-being.

Journaling for Emotional Regulation:

  • Journaling is incredibly healing as it helps me process my thoughts, gain insights, and release pent-up emotions (hello, “Rage on the Page” sessions).
  • It decreases anxiety and provides a space to see that we are not our thoughts.

Understanding the Nervous System with Somatic Therapy:

  • Somatic therapy helps process and release unprocessed trauma and stress stored in the body.
  • It focuses on bodily sensations rather than cognitive processing, empowering us to confront emotions like fear, shame, and frustration.
  • The goal is to gently release pent-up energy, reduce symptoms, and promote healing.
