Ancak film çok çeşitli tartışmalara sebep oldu. Bu tartışmalarda pek çok kişi ortak noktada buluştu. Gerek Napoléon'un hikayesindeki eksiklikler gerekse Napolyon Savaşları, Rus Seferi veya Kış Seferi olarak anılan seferin anlatımında eksik kalan noktalar pek çok sinemaseverde hayal kırıklığı yarattı.
