Noshing Narratives: Culinary Characters Unlocked

from 50 Tastes Of Gray · host Matthew Gray

In this episode of 50 Tastes Of Gray, I had the immense pleasure of welcoming back the legendary David Page, the original creator and producer of the iconic show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. This was David’s second appearance on the podcast, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of spectacular.David and I share a lifelong love (and perhaps an addiction) for food, flavor, history, and cooking. Our bond goes beyond just our professional lives; we both grew up in Jewish households filled with humor, sarcasm, hostility, and passion. With decades of experience in media and entertainment—David in TV news and journalism, and myself in hosting and talk-radio—we have a unique connection that makes our conversations truly special.David is quite the talker, and if I didn’t want to spend the entire show saying “wow,” “right,” “really?” and “that’s interesting,” I had to be a bit more conversationally assertive. But that’s the beauty of our dynamic—I can razz David without him missing a beat. We tease, laugh, tell stories, commiserate, communicate, listen, learn, and inform each other. It’s a great connection, and I’d wager he has the best time on my show than any other he’s ever done.We discussed a wide range of topics, including food, travel, therapy, family, good timing, hard work, not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, health challenges, food ingredients, a bit of politics, and so much more. It was a conversation filled with depth, humor, and profound insights.About David Page: David Page is the President and Executive Producer of Page Productions and the Host and Executive Producer of Culinary Characters Unlocked. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
