Not To Hang Around

from Strangely Looping · host Jason Stafford

Don't read too much into the lyrics on this one (actually, I would hope you wouldn't read much of anything into any of my lyrics). All the lyrics are based on the fact that I felt like the melody of the chorus ought to end every line with an "ow" sound for some reason. You probably don't realize how difficult it was for me, how much restraint it took, to limit the pseudo-choir backing to just one verse and the bridge. You probably do know that backup vocals are usually my favorite part of pop music, but I know it's easy sometimes to overdo it, and I'd rather miss the pseudo-choir than get sick of it. I also feel like I should apologize for the slightly onanistic bass part, especially at the end. Just be thankful it fades out where it does.

Alien Crash Site Caitlin McShea A new InterPlanetary interview series from the Santa Fe Institute takes a page from the Strugatsky brothers' classic Soviet sci-fi novel, Roadside Picnic, to discuss a variety of transformative alien artifacts.Thirteen years ago, an alien civilization visited our planet, and left behind myriad, mysterious materials in their crash sites. These areas, Zones, behave very strangely, but the interplanetary items they contain could change the trajectory of our technological advancement. What appears as a hoop might actually be a perpetual-motion machine. What appears as a slime might alter space-time.Spend too much time in the Zone and your genes might mutate, your bones might dissolve, your body might be ground into meat. If you’re lucky enough to make it out alive, you’ll likely be imprisoned. But a successful trip in and out of the Zone could alter human history. Do you dare? And for what?Hosted by Caitlin McShea.
