from The Common Good Podcast · host Brian From

(00:00-09:10): Kanye West: My $68 million tax refund is God’s reward for me being a Christian. Brian and Ian touch on the evident change in the rapper’s life, as well as some kinks he needs to work out as far as theology goes. These questionable statements don’t disprove his salvation.  (09:10-17:49): We are joined in-studio by Executive Director of the Englewood Family Outreach, Daniel Bair. He starts out by talking about his mission and calling into the urban centers of the south-side of Chicago, then talks about the ways he is seeing God move in these areas.  (17:49-27:19): Daniel sticks around and discusses steps the outreach is taking to end inner-city poverty and how hopeful he is to be seeing an improvement. He has been working in the ministry for 18 years, and has hope for Chicago as he looks to start a church restart in the area. For more information on the ministry, visit www.urban7.org.  (27:19-36:47): Pastor Andy Savage launches new church as Beth Moore offers comfort to his sexual assault victim. Brian and Ian touch on how the pastor is getting back into leadership too quickly, and how he seems to dismiss any responsibility on his end for the situation. (36:47-46:49): Former President Obama speaks at his foundation’s summit on cancel culture, or “call-out culture”. He briefly touches on how nobody’s perfect, and how we as a society don’t allow each other to make mistakes, learn, and grow. Brian and Ian listen to his statements and respond.  (46:49-58:40): We are joined via phone by reporter from the Houston Chronicle, Robert Downen. He has been the lead reporter on “Abuse of Faith”, an ongoing investigation of sexual abuse in the Southern Baptist Convention, the nation’s largest faith group. He talks about how more than 700 people have been victimized by church leaders and how efforts are being made to eliminate that.  (58:40-1:07:10): Brian and Ian touch on this CNN article: “Sunday sadness is real. Here's how to battle the pre-workweek blues” by Sandee LaMotte. They talk about the realities on burning out throughout the week and having the weekend go by too quickly. This article discusses common triggers of stress and depression.  (1:07:10-1:13:44): Brian and Ian’s “Weird Stuff We Found on the Internet”: Bus drivers are not automatically babysitters, and university library has a spider infestation. Someone in Arizona takes petty crime to boulder-sized levels, and if you’re deaf in Maryland, you’d better make sure your toilet stops flushing.
