Pan-Roasted Pears With Honey Caramel Sauce Ep. 12 | Life at the Table

from A Savory Moment by Life At The Table · host Chef Sandra Lewis

Win The Pear Lottery! Pan-roasted pears with honey caramel sauce. Have you ever taken a bite out of a perfectly beautiful pear, only to discover that it was not quite ripe? What a shock! It’s grainy and dry, devoid of that luscious pear juice your tastebuds were longing for. One researcher in the Northwest who has dedicated his career to moving the pear out of the shadow of the apple says, “Getting a nicely ripened pear is harder than winning the lottery.” Pears Don’t Ripen On The Tree That’s because, pears are one of the few fruits that don’t ripen on the tree and the color of a pear doesn’t change as it ripens. If it’s beautiful on the outside, how can you tell if it’s ripe on the inside? It’s all in the touch. How To Tell If A Pear Is Ripe Grab it by the neck and give it a slight squeeze. If it gives just a bit, it’s ripe. You can buy pears unripe; leave them on your counter at home until they ripen. It may take as many as 30 days before some pears convert their starch to sugar. Pears are a beautiful fruit and with just a bit of effort, it can make an elegant offering for family and friends, especially for dessert. Pan-Roasted Pears With Honey Caramel Sauce Try pan-roasting pears. If you haven’t moved beyond slimply slicing and coring a pear, this is the recipe for you. Saute the pears in butter. As the pears and the butter begin to brown, drizzle the pears with honey. The butter and honey combo create a yummy caramel sauce. Arrange the pear slices on a platter once they are cooked through, drizzle with the caramel, and garnish with bit of bleu cheese and toasted pine nuts. Use a Bosc pear for this dessert as they retain their shape even with the high heat. This combination is dreamy. It’s so simple, impressive, and delicious you’ll think you won the pear lottery. This is a beautiful dessert to follow Chili and Cumin Rubbed Pork Chops. Print Pan-Roasted Pears With Honey Caramel Sauce Print Recipe Pin Recipe 5 Stars 4 Stars 3 Stars 2 Stars 1 Star No reviews Prep Time: 0 hours Cook Time: 0 hours Total Time: 25 minutes Yield: Serves 4 Ingredients 4 tablespoons unsalted butter 3 firm Bosc pears, cored and quartered 3 tablespoons honey 2 oz. bleu cheese 3 tablespoons pine nuts Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark Instructions Melt unsalted butter in large skillet over medium high heat.
