Aqui faço uma incursão no período medieval do yoga (séc.VII-X) e suas influências do ayurveda, vedanta advaita, sufismo, alquimia muçulmana, budismo e tantrismo para revelar a crítica realizada por estes ao domínio da aristocracia bramânica e a estratificação social da Índia deste período. Aponto, não obstante, que na modernidade somos herdeiros desta mesma contenda (yogues "corporais"/híbridos x yogues "textuais"/tradicionalistas). Enquanto não nos ativermos a esta questão antiga que acompanha o yoga até os dias de hoje continuaremos discutindo o "por quê" o yoga se tornou tão "corporal"? (pergunta típica de um yogue descendente da aristocracia brâmane). Ou ainda, "que se dane" os textos de quem quer que seja, o que importa mesmo são as minhas sensações (portanto, corporais) pessoais (resposta idêntica que um hatha-yogue indiano medieval diria).
