Inspired by medieval monophonic traditions of 13th–14th century Europe. The composition uses modal structure and drone-based accompaniment (hurdy-gurdy) to evoke the sound world of early secular and spiritual music. A restrained vocal line and minimal arrangement reflect the aesthetics of itinerant musicians and oral tradition. A study in simplicity, repetition, and time.
