Welcome back! On today's episode Thaylar and Aiesha are taking you through some of the highs and lows of Pole Dancing! Before we get into the ep, we need to start by acknowledging the efforts of pioneering strippers and sex workers who brought pole dance to the mainstream and those who continue to work in the industry today. Without these people, we would not have contemporary pole dancing. We believe part of anyone's pole journey should involve educating themselves around the sex industry's paramount contribution to Pole and continue to keep themselves educated on issues that sex workers face, as well as be an ally to the industry. You can find some resources below to get you started: Blogger On Pole, on a history of modern pole dance https://www.instagram.com/p/CREvPcmsFwO/?utm_medium=copy_link @mistypoledancer on appropriation of stripping https://www.instagram.com/p/CL7HcQFhVt8/?utm_medium=copy_link @Sequinmicrobikini on biased censorship of sex workers and suggestions for how you can be an ally https://www.instagram.com/p/CIOxkXgJmze/?utm_medium=copy_link On today's episode we also made a mention of the term "exotic". Once a common term to describe sexy/sensual/club style dancing, we must recognise that this term has racist roots, that sought to objectify BIPOC, and as such, we now avoid using the term. You can find some more information here: Kitty Velour on the history of the term "exotic" https://www.instagram.com/p/CQdcpqigGyR/?utm_medium=copy_link Blogger On Pole on ethics and backgrounds in pole https://www.instagram.com/p/CLwnxz4hHam/?utm_medium=copy_link Amplify silenced voices, and tip your strippers. We talk the how's and whys of Aiesha and Thay getting into pole, the rocky and awkward journey it can take and some of the most rewarding aspects of our pole experiences. We also shared a couple of our tips for finding a studio for you and stepping onto the stage to compete! We packed alot into this bad boy, but we really just scratched the surface!
