Despite two historic Hollywood strikes that shook-up the industry for good, the year saw heavyweight filmmakers like Nolan, Scorcese, Fincher and Scott produce some of their most intriguing works, while franchise blockbusters like Across the Spider-Verse set new standards for animation.
