Pro Footballer John Bostock: ‘The pitch has been my pulpit’

When John Bostock gave his life to Jesus, aged 15, he thought God would give him sporting glory, just like his footballing hero, Kaka. A year later, at 16, he became the youngest ever first team player for Crystal Palace FC, then Tottenham Hotspur. He captained his country and was tipped as the next big thing. But by 21, he was without a club or a contract and considered quitting football altogether. Over his long professional career, John has played for 16 clubs in five different countries. He is the first to admit that his journey has not been what he would have chosen. Yet throughout it all, God has been teaching him about surrender, patience and endurance. Ten years ago, John started Ballers in God, a pro-to-pro football ministry. Best known for its Instagram page, which regularly showcases athletes giving God the glory, it also provides support, spiritual guidance and discipleship to footballers and their families.
