"Self awareness can make us better at our jobs, better communicators in the workplace, and enhance our self confidence and job related well being."As a leadership coach I believe that being aware of your thoughts and feelings is one of the most important parts of being a leader. This week, I talk metacognition, or thinking about our thinking and self-awareness. According to research, among other things, self-awareness can make us better communicators in the workplace, which is exactly what we need to be as leaders and aspiring leaders. In this episode, you will learn:1. What Metacognition and self-awareness are and why we need to practice both 2. She believes that being a leader from the inside out is the most important part of the accelerate your leadership method. She was listening to a book this week, all about Metacognition, which is thinking about our thinking. Self awareness is the ability to observe and accurately identify one's thoughts, feelings and behaviors. According to research conducted by Sutton, Williams and Allenson in 2015, self awareness can make us better at our jobs, better communicators in the workplace, and enhance our self confidence and job related well being.[00:08:59] - When we practice metacognition and self awareness, we can uncover our biases and bring our behavior back into alignment with our values. She encourages people to give it a try, as it can help them to uncover their biases and build better relationships.[00:13:36] - There are three ways to get better at thinking about all the things. The first is journaling. The second is to talk it out with someone you trust. The third is to sit in silence.[00:16:51] - Mark Manson is the author of the Subtle Art of not giving a F*ck. He suggests that when practicing self awareness it's best to go only a few layers down until you start repeating yourself.
