Carey, beloved by her peers and colleagues, left the Santa Barbara Unified School District amid a wave of voluntary departures, 26, as of July 31, in the past year. In this podcast, Carey talks about why she left, her career milestones, her family, the story behind how she came to Santa Barbara, and her new role as director of school and district support. Carey began her career in Santa Barbara Unified as a paraeducator, became a history teacher, and then principal at Dos Pueblos High School.
