Every now and then, a seal makes an appearance in areas populated by humans, sparking a great deal of interest. Many of us remember Freddie the seal, who became a local celebrity in Teddington as people flocked to witness his playful antics. Sadly, Freddie's life was cut short when a dog, having slipped its harness negatively interacted with Freddie, leading to a tragic accident. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of how easily we can disrupt the delicate balance of nature.

I had the opportunity to speak with Dan Jarvis from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue about how we can enjoy interacting with these magnificent creatures without causing them harm. Dan emphasized the importance of observing seals from a respectful distance to minimize stress and disturbance. He also highlighted the need for keeping dogs on leashes near seal habitats to prevent any unfortunate encounters.

By adopting these simple measures, we can ensure that our curiosity and admiration for seals do not inadvertently lead to harm, allowing them to thrive in their natural environments and continue to bring joy to those who have the chance to see them.
