Fonte de estudos em várias universidades pelo mundo, a energia advinda das plantas, assim como a energia eólica e a energia solar, são consideradas energias limpas. Um bom exemplo de energia limpa é o projeto E-kaia: um carregador de celular que funciona a base de plantas criado por estudantes da universidade do Chile. E como um dos maiores desafios da ciência na atualidade é a busca pelo desenvolvimento e implantação dessas energias em ambientes urbanos, essa alternativa vem a ser uma solução interessante e curiosa.
