"Should I Date a Protestant?" (The Patrick Madrid Show)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

Ever wonder if a Catholic and a Protestant can really make it work in a marriage? It’s a super common question! If you’re feeling unsure about staying in a relationship with someone from a different faith, you’re definitely not alone. 👀   In this episode of The Patrick Madrid Show, Chiara from LA calls in looking for advice on her relationship with her Protestant boyfriend. She’s a committed Catholic, and he’s non-denominational Christian. So, what’s the game plan when you’re on two different pages spiritually?   Patrick jumps right in, asking Chiara about how deep her boyfriend’s commitment is to his evangelical beliefs, like sola scriptura (the idea that it’s just the Bible and nothing else) and "once saved, always saved" thinking. There’s no sugar-coating it: he brings up the real differences between Catholicism and Protestantism, especially when it comes to big life stuff like how they’d raise future kids in the faith. 👶🙏   One helpful suggestion Patrick makes? He tells them to check out a book called "Surprised by Truth," which is full of stories from Evangelical Protestants who became Catholic. This could be a great way for Chiara and her boyfriend to sit down and really explore what those differences mean for their future. 📖   Sure, it might not be easy for Chiara to hear all this—it’s definitely something to chew on. But Patrick keeps it real, encouraging her to think about the long-term picture and how unity in faith can play a huge role in a successful marriage.   And hey, this convo hit close to home for you too.  You're not alone!
