Silver Spoons: S2E9: Sounds Of Silence

from Punky Power: An Unofficial Punky Brewster Podcast and Together We're Gonna Find Our Way: An Unofficial Silver Spoons Podcast · host Angela Bowen

Happy Sunday Night Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Together, We're Gonna Find Our Way: An Unofficial Silver Spoons Podcast. Today, I'm covering S2E9: Sounds Of Silence, which aired on December 17, 1983. In this episode, Ricky is frustrated by his lack of improvement as a musician in the school orchestra, and after a disastrous humiliation at their concert, he turns to Edward for advice on how to reach his goals. I learned in this episode that: Ricky has been playing the bassoon for a year and still hasn't improved. Derek makes a reading of Peter and the Wolf all about him. Ricky apparently plays football? Since when? Why are we just now learning this and have had no prior evidence supporting Ricky's interest in sports. Edward talks about a time in high school when he was playing quarterback number 4 his coach put him in because the other two back-ups were injured (what are the odds of that?)putting Edward in the game with less than 30 seconds left, he failed to take simple direction from his football coach and fall on the ball as instructed but in the end deciding to do the opposite,to throw the ball to another player, which was intercepted by the opposing team, costing his team to lose the game and to add insult to injury the other team awards Edward the winning game ball. Ugh! This show loves to dress the actors in furry animal costumes on occasion. This one was for a charity ball for saving the endangered animals. Join me later this week for S2E10: Reek the Greek, which aired on January 7, 1984. In this episode Rick writes a computer program to predict football scores, making bets along with his friends. But when he ends up indebted to a bookie, he steals a rare coin from his father's collection.
