It was first used as a stand-alone episode of Hollywood Star Playhouse on April 13, 1952. Fan reaction was so great, the producers decided to try and turn The Six Shooter into a series. It was then used for the July 15, 1953 audition program, including a personal message from James Stewart trying to sell the show. Finally, it was used for the seventh episode of the series itself on November 1, 1953.
