There will be times when you must take a step back and consider where you are going next.

Things often happen incredibly fast for us so it is natural to take time to re-evaluate your direction and adjust the path you want to follow. Everyone has to do it not just performers but it seems to be much more noticeable when a performer does it. You must accept that people will not understand, its part of the life we have given ourselves. Taking a break means you are literally taking time away from all things performing, you are escaping for a while. When you are “stepping back,” as I call it, you are still actively pursuing your career, you are just going into more of a planning stage. Think of it as a business - when a Business reaches its goal the board of directors meet and evaluate the next steps and the new direction they will be going. We have to do the same. It may not always come when you reach a goal, you may be seeing things happen that you did not expect and need time to really thinking, you may have an opportunity that is not aligned with your original plan, or you may find that how you are currently doing things just isn’t working for you anymore. All of these situations are perfectly normal and your instincts are correct - you should take time to step back and evaluate where you want to go next.
