Storytelling Tip: Stop Thinking of Plot and Character as Separate Entities... They're Not!

Many storytellers (authors, scriptwriters, etc), especially when starting out, consider plot and character to be two distinct parts of storytelling. They are not. (Thankfully I learned this lesson early on from Robert McKee—you can too by reading his book STORY). The reason I know they are not different is because of YouTube channels like Screen Rant's Pitch Meetings (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL--PgETgAz5FGoatB9KQzbnpv0bgZqU2l), Screen Junkies' Honest Trailers (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL86F4D497FD3CACCE) and Cinema Sins (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMWfZxj1nTkQBy4AeRGG4xH5d2IIApNPj). These videos showcase various plot holes and bad character motivation within movies. Sometimes they are truly nitpicks but other times they are correct. Had the writers in some of those instances not considered plot and character as separate those plot holes and bad motivation wouldn't exist.
