Suicidal Tendencies in our youth and communities.
from Sharla’s Badass Black Women podcast formerly Healing Racism in Schools · host Sharla Stevens and The Ancestors, M. Ed
I know of three educators who either attempted suicide or were suicidal within the last two weeks. I was one of those educators. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth age 10-24. Suicide rates for Black girls has risen over 180% in the last 15 years. Our medical institutions, like our educational institutions, lack cultural competency. This is deadly to historical excluded communities. ☠️In this episode, I share my personal struggles with my bipolar 2 diagnosis and why we all need to de-stigmatize mental health issues. Until we as a society come clean about our mental health struggles, our children will pay the price. Because I am committed to the wellness of our youth, I am putting my story out there. I hope others will be inspired to do the same. Silence kills. 💥Come to my event HOW EDUCATORS CAN BETTER SERVE STUDENTS OF COLOR on Eventbrite Sept 8th, by donation, online.
