If you have any suggestions or additions or corrections, you can let me know by going to my website at Greg doig.com. first story up is WhatsApp details plans to offer encrypted backups. The story comes from Chris Ducker at Zd net this was written on September 13, Whatsapp announced that it will be offering its users end to end encrypted backups later this year, users will have a choice for how the encryption key used is stored. The simplest is for users to keep a record of the random 64 digit key themselves. This is akin to how signal handles backups, which they would need to reenter to restore a backup. The alternative would be for the random key to be stored in WhatsApp infrastructure dubbed as hardware security module based backup Key Vault that would be accessible via a user created password. The backups would store message text, as well as photos and videos received WhatsApp set. The backups themselves are generated on the client as data files which are encrypted using symmetric encryption with the locally generated key according to WhatsApp. After a backup is encrypted. They say it is stored in a third party storage for example, iCloud or Google Drive. Because the backups are encrypted with a key not known to Google or Apple. The cloud provider is incapable of reading them. Our next story comes from z d net again written by Jason SIPRI. Annie, who asked the question Are your air pods battery going bad? Well, here's a fix for you. Go to the website, pod swap at pod swag calm. And they have a process that goes like this, you purchase a $70 air pods replacement swap for the first or second generation air pods on their site, they'll send you a box with a pair of replacement air pods charging cases not included and the label for you to send your old air pods back in. You have five business days after your new iPods arrive to complete your part of the shipping process. In comparison, Apple charges a $49 battery service fee per air pod if you're having issues and want them to fix or replace the near button. So take note, you can't send in a pair of air pods that are damaged in any way. They have to be free of any physical or water damage and in good working order. So if you want to find out more again, go to the website pod swa p COMM And you can find all the steps listed there. And if there are any changes, they'll also be noted there for you.
