TFT121: Back Pain Checklist For Hikers

from The Training For Trekking Podcast · host Rowan Smith

In this episode, I talk through a simple checklist a hiker can use if they struggle with back pain. == We all know back pain is a terrible thing. There is nothing so stressful, so scary and so debilitating as recurring back pain. And if you are preparing for a significant hike, and you struggle with back pain, it can make things tricky. Because you need to be careful with longer hikes, you need to be careful with heavy pack training and you need to be careful with types of strength training. It can sometimes all seem a bit overwhelming. And in everyday life, this is bad enough. But if you have a significant hike looming over you, with a start date that gets closer and closer, it can really cause you a lot of stress.. I know. Because I have seen this countless times. But I will tell you right now; there is a solution to all of this. It is possible to get fit, strong and resilient for a hiking adventure, even if you struggle with back pain. It is possible to make a significant reduction in your back discomfort, while you are simultaneously improving your hiking conditioning. It is possible to get yourself back to fully enjoying your adventures, without that dark cloud of fear looming over you... And this is all possible with the right guidance, support and advice.
