The C.O.W.S. ASSATA: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY Part I
from The C.O.W.S.
The Context of White Supremacy hosts our debut study session on the autobiography of Assata Shakur. Formerly JoAnne Chesimard, Shakur is a veteran of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army, a convicted cop killer, an escaped felon, the first woman ever placed on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List, and an author. As President Obama has labored to improve relations with Cuba, Shakur's extradition continues to be a pivotal talking point. Her autobiography reveals how her understanding of her Racism evolved and what she should do to solve this problem. The book gives equal time to her account of being imprisoned and shackled for a crime she maintains she did not commit. Listeners should contrast this narrative with our recent study of Minister Malcolm X.
