Darling Turner visits The Context of White Supremacy. An Austin-based physicianâ??s assistant and certified doula, Ms. Turner established the Healing Hands Doula Project to support "healthy pregnancies and births for women of color in Texas." Additionally, she hosts the Mamas on Bedrest & Beyond podcast, which is engineered to "provide new mamas tips and information on topics ranging from prenatal nausea to post partum depression to infant teething." Turner said the staggering levels of maternal mortality rates for black females in Texas prompted her to action. Ms. Turner offers resources for new parents and helps to put expecting mothers in touch with doulas. We'll discuss nutrition tips for mothers who plan to breastfeed and ask about ways of minimizing invasive and unnecessary surgeries.
